Biofuels law, compulsory quotas set up to 2022

On the Gazzetta Ufficiale n. 250 of 27 October the decree of the Ministry of Economic Development of 10 October 2014 was published “Updating the conditions, criteria and methods for implementing the obligation to release biofuels for consumption, including advanced ones”.

The decree establishes the new mandatory quotas of biofuels, equal to 5% of the emissions for consumption of petrol and diesel in 2015, to 5.5% in 2016, to 6.5% in 2017, to 7.5% in 2018 , 9% in 2019, 10% between 2020 and 2022. Biofuels also include biomethane and biopropane.

The main novelty is that from 2018 part of the obligation will have to be covered with “advanced” biofuels, ie obtained from waste or non-food raw materials, indicated in Annex 3 of the decree: the share will be 1.2% in 2018 and 2019, by 1.6% in 2020 and 2021 and by 2% in 2022.
