Also in 2021, despite the numerous difficulties linked to the pandemic situation, the Tere Group continued its research and development activity focused on the study of new technologies for the cultivation of microalgae. At the same time, new collaborations were activated with Italian universities and those already existing with foreign research centers were strengthened.<\/p>\n\n
From this point of view, the publication in the prestigious international Chemical Engineering Journal, with an impact factor of 13 and 4th place in the rank of over 143 scientific journals in the field of chemical engineering, of the work entitled “Experiments and modeling of Komvophoron sp. Growth in hydraulic fracturing wastewater<\/strong>\u201d.<\/p>\n\n Dr. Giovanni Antonio Lutzu<\/strong> , Lab Manager of the Tere Group, contributed significantly to the study, in collaboration with Dr. Alessandro Concas of the Center for Research, Development and Higher Studies of Sardinia and Prof. Nurhan Turgut Dunford of Oklahoma State University.<\/p>\n\n The work offers a comprehensive overview of the use of microalgae as an efficient ecological strategy for the removal of contaminants from wastewater. The ability of microalgae to biologically restore water from the agro-industrial sector, farm wastewater and municipal water has been known for decades. But the ability of algae is also manifested in the removal of hydrocarbons and heavy metals from waters deriving from fracking activities, that is linked to the extraction of gas and oil from the subsoil.<\/p>\n\n In this year so peculiar due to the difficulties related to the covid-19 pandemic, we at Tere Group have continued our research activities in the microalgae sector, activating new collaborations with Italian and foreign universities.<\/p>\n\n With this in mind, we are particularly proud to announce the publication in the prestigious international journal Journal of Environmental Chemical Engineering<\/strong> of a work entitled \u201cLatest developments in wastewater treatment and biopolymer production by microalgae\u201d<\/strong>, relating to the latest discoveries in the applications of algae for the wastewater treatment and the production of bioplastics.<\/p>\n\n The research was led by Dr. Giovanni Antonio Lutzu, our lab manager (pictured), who made use of the valuable contribution of colleagues and researchers from Italian and US universities. Specifically, the co-authors of the publication were: Prof. Nurhan Turgut Dunford of the Department of Biosystems and Agricultural Engineering of Oklahoma State University, Dr. Alessandro Concas of the Center for Research, Development and Higher Studies of Sardinia, Prof.ssa Adriana Ciurli of the Faculty of Agriculture of the University of Pisa, Dr. Carolina Chiellini of the Institute of Biological Agriculture and Biotechnology of the CNR of Pisa, and Dr. Fabrizio Di Caprio of the Chemistry Department of the La Sapienza University of Rome.<\/p>\n\n
